SkillsUSA

Students in the ICC web curriculum are encouraged to participate in the Web Professionals/ SkillsUSA Web Page Creation Contest. This contest is held in Springfield, Illinois near the end of April. If you are interested in participating, you will need to become a member of SkillsUSA. Contact me for the appropriate registration form, etc. You should consider doing this before early-January.

The contest itself involves answering quiz questions and completing a series of challenges which are described the morning of the contest. The state contest is held in late April. The contest will be held on a Friday morning in Springfield. Students will be given a shared USB drive containing various graphics, text, etc. and will be given a few hours to address the challenges. This contest feeds the national contest in Kansas City in June (and is mirrored to reflect what happens there). Students should compete as a team in the state contest; only teams are eligible to compete at the national level. Each team (secondary and post-secondary) must win first place at the Illinois contest to be eligible to compete at the national contest in June. Contestants may use whatever tools they are comfortable with. They must being proof of ownership. Students are expected to bring their own laptop (if you are unable, I may be able to locate one or two).

The national Web Design contest was held for the first time in 2004. ICC’s team (listed below) received first place. Second place went to a team from Oklahoma and third place went to a team from Texas.
